2021 January News

Hi everybody, welcome back for 2021.  Hope you are all fighting fit & ready for a New Year of Squash!

Australia Day Weekend Masters Tournament

held last weekend 23rd & 24th January 2021, was deemed a great weekend by all participants.  Masters players from as far away as Mossman in far North Qld and Ballina in NSW and many cities and towns in between were hanging out for a Squash Tournament after a very sparse Calendar in 2020 & the Daisy Hill tournament scheduled for two weekends ago being cancelled.

There were 88 players and a few reserves waiting.  Usually the cut-off is 80 but it was impossible to turn people away as many were already on the road travelling long distances.  A small extended playing time fitted everyone in and all were happy to finally get their "Squash Fix".

Our Saturday night dinner was very well supported with over 60 hungry, happy and somewhat tired Squashies enjoying the great food at the RSL.  Thank you all for supporting our Hervey Bay Aust Day Masters Tournament & see you all again next year!

Monday and Thursday Night and Tuesday Daytime Competitions

are returning in February. Club fees will remain at $30 for the year and there will be incentives for players who pay their fees early.

Thursday Night Teams Competition Trials

will be run on the 4th and 11th February with the competition proper starting on the 18th.  The format for Thursday night will be the same as run in the second half of 2020, with early matches starting at 6.00pm and late matches at 7.30pm or 8pm (if there are 5 lines per team).  Teams will consist of 4 players arranged into 4 (or 5) graded lines, playing best of 5, 9 point, hand out games.

If you are unable to make the trials for Thursday night, make sure you contact Russell so that you can be considered for a team position.  Even if you do not want to commit to be a full time team member, the club really needs players who are available as reserves for the times when team members are unable to play.

Monday Night Competition Trials

will be starting on the 1st February.  The format will be a bit different from last year, matches will consist of 3 games to 22 points, point a rally. The progressive points system will be retained with the first 2 games worth 1 point, the 3rd game, 2 points.  Games will not be timed but more details of the operating system will be determined after gradings.

Tuesday Morning Teams Competition Trials

start the 2nd February with Sylvia Black the coordinator.  Our daytime players hope to include a trip to Bundaberg this year to play their daytime group counterparts.
